Wild Plant Club: Blackthorn

Service Description

The Wild Plant Club: Blackthorn Saturday 7th November 2026 | 9:30am – 10:30am Have you ever spotted those beautiful blue-black sloes growing along a hedgerow, or noticed the sharp thorns of a blackthorn bush without really knowing much about it? That's exactly why I've created The Wild Plant Club. On the first Saturday of every month, we'll meet one beautiful wild plant that's growing all around us. This month we're turning our attention to Blackthorn and its gorgeous sloe berries. A familiar sight in our hedgerows, blackthorn has a fascinating story to tell. From its frothy white blossom in early spring to its dark, dusty-blue berries in autumn, this is a plant that marks the changing seasons beautifully. Its fierce thorns have earned it a place in folklore, while its sloes have long been gathered to make everything from traditional sloe gin to preserves. And, of course, there's a little bit of magic in there too... During our hour together we'll chat about: * How to recognise Blackthorn and where you're most likely to find it. * The myths, folklore and traditional beliefs surrounding this thorny hedgerow plant. * The stories behind sloes and how they've been used through the seasons. * Simple ways Blackthorn can inspire us to notice and appreciate the changing season. This isn't a botany lesson and you don't need to know anything about plants before you come along. It's simply an hour to slow down, learn something new and enjoy spending time with like-minded people who love nature. As part of The Wild Plant Club you'll receive: 🌿 A live online session, with a recording if you can't make it live. 📖 A beautiful Wild Plant Passport page to download and keep — your own little record of the plants and stories you discover with us. 🍂 A Wild Plant Invitation to encourage you to get outside and find this month's plant for yourself. 📸 A #WildPlantClub challenge so we can share our discoveries and help keep the stories of our wild plants alive. £12 per session Bellflower & Bloom Members receive £3 off every Wild Plant Club session.
